I’ve had to regularly go to the doctor, take medication, and stay educated. Now, I raise awareness and spread my testimony on radio and TV.
My church, wife, friends, and doctors have been there for me. I’ve also found information online to be very helpful for the education of mental health.
I’m proud that I have not missed a dose of my medicine in the last 16 years, and that I maintain a journal. I have been blessed in that I’ve never drank or took drugs, but when mania or depression hit, it led to divorce and sexual encounters I’m not proud of.

Chet L. Grimsley played football through high school and college. He was the first white student athlete at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, a historically black college, and he has since published a book about the experience. In 1976, Grimsley received the M.V.P. Award and the Pettis Norman Award for football. He also received Eastern Airlines Most Valuable Player All American and was the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
