Chet Grimsley's Story

Nov 5, 2016

What were the steps leading up to your diagnosis?

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1998 and have been on Depakote and seen doctors regularly since.

We must strive to take one day or hour at a time.

What lifestyle changes have you needed to make?

I’ve had to regularly go to the doctor, take medication, and stay educated. Now, I raise awareness and spread my testimony on radio and TV.

Who has been there for you? How?

My church, wife, friends, and doctors have been there for me. I’ve also found information online to be very helpful for the education of mental health.

What accomplishment are you proud of?

I’m proud that I have not missed a dose of my medicine in the last 16 years, and that I maintain a journal. I have been blessed in that I’ve never drank or took drugs, but when mania or depression hit, it led to divorce and sexual encounters I’m not proud of.

What's your advice to someone else living with Bipolar?

To read great articles and advice like on NewLifeOutlook, and do not be ashamed. We must strive to take one day or hour at a time and be accountable for our actions.

I have been blessed in that I’ve never drank or took drugs.

Is there anything else we should know?

We need every bit of mental health awareness we can get!
