Bipolar Mania Warning Signs

With bipolar disorder, there is a clear distinction between a full-blown manic episode and a depressive episode. This is helpful so you can recognize the signs and put systems into place to help you before they begin.

Read on to learn more about the warning signs of mania, or watch the video above.

Grandiosity

You could have an inflated self-esteem or grandiosity. You may think you are super important and feel overly confident.

Lack of Sleep

You could also have a decreased need for sleep — you'd feel rested after only a few hours of sleep.

Racing Words and Thoughts

When mania is coming on, you may be more talkative than usual and feel a pressure to keep talking. You may also feel like your thoughts are racing.

Racing Thoughts and Lack of Focus

You could feel like your thoughts are racing and find yourself very distracted. You may also have increased goal-direct activity — you'd have a lot of different goals and feel like you have to work on them now.

Pleasurable Activities

Finally, you may have increased involvement in pleasurable activities that have a high potential for a painful or embarrassing outcome. For example, you could have unrestrained buying sprees, or make foolish business investments.
