  • Thank you for including bipolar, peripartum onset (previously referred to as postpartum bipolar before the DSM-5 came out) as a specifier. However, this description is incomplete; there should be a mention of how bipolar, peripartum onset can manifest as hypomania or mania, and that it can be a completely separate condition from the postpartum psychosis - the two peripartum mood disorders are often linked. My book "Birth of a New Brain - Healing from Postpartum Bipolar Disorder" (Post Hill Press, Fall, 2017) contains interviews with the top perinatal psychiatry experts all over the world, i.e. Dr. Ian Jones, Dr. Verinder Sharma et al., and examines how this perinatal condition occurs and presents before, during and after childbirth.

Sorry but this does happen to some. Please research this further. It’s called ultradian cycling. It does occur. Defined periods of mania and depression throughout a single day. Not to be confused with mixed episodes. They are often confused but they are defined shifts between states.
